This project is a joint effort between the Westchester Kiwanis Club, the Bakersfield Police Department, and the Bakersfield City School District. The Bakersfield City School District identified McKinley Elementary School as an elementary school in a gang demographic and determined that 4th-grade level kids still have a chance to have a positive and constructive opportunity to be influenced through interaction with local police department volunteers. Not only do the kids receive a t-shirt, breakfast, and lunch provided by McDonald’s, but they participate in fun, team building activities throughout the day with volunteer police officers as their team captains.
For over 40 years the Westchester Kiwanis Club of Bakersfield
has provided a Christmas Shopping Spree including breakfast
for approximately 60 underprivileged children in our
community. Many times these are the only Christmas gifts and
celebration the children will receive. The Club provides $150 for
each child to purchase gifts for their family and themselves.
In 2008 Westchester Kiwanis began hosting an annual golf tournament to raise funds to help pay for the many community service projects supported by the club. The golf tournament normally takes place in the fall of each year and provides many fun ways for the public to participate in a fun day of golf with friends while helping to raise money for local children in need.
For more than 25 years, Westchester Kiwanis has hosted a din-
ner with a fun-filled setting of entertainment, all aimed at raising
funds to support the club’s many community service projects.
For the past several years, this has included a wonderful tri-tip &
chicken dinner, live musical entertainment, live auction, silent
auction and drawings.
